Governor M. Jodi Rell announced the second and final rounds of reverse auctions to procure electricity for state buildings resulted in additional savings of $2 million. The state anticipates a total savings in energy costs of more than $20 million with the new contracts, which run through June, 2009. Along with the fiscal savings, the latest contract combined with the contracts from the first-ever reverse auction held in September, the state’s electricity contracts will increase the use of clean, renewable power by more than 17 percent. The contracts from the two reverse auctions will increase the state’s use of “clean and green” renewable power by 25 percent above the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard.
