Construction on a power plant in the south end of Bridgeport may begin later in the year barring coastal zone approval. This plant, proposed for $200 million and 2.15 acres at 10 Atlantic St., is designed to extend the output of adjacent Bridgeport Energy, LLC power plant during periods of high demand, no more than 25 percent of the year, according to Blake Wheatley, general manager of LS Power Development. LS Power Development is co-owner of Bridgeport Energy II LLC, the project developer, in addition to the existing Bridgeport Energy facility. The proposed plant predominantly utilizes natural gas with a backup diesel fuel source.
