Five alternative fuel vehicles—two hybrid sedans, two natural gas sedans and a van—will be purchased for Glastonbury’s Dial-A-Ride program. This decision was made unanimously by the town council as part of an effort to replace inefficient cars in the preexisting fleet, which already had two gas/electric hybrid sedans. The cost for these vehicles is $85,230. The Department of Transportation will reimburse the town roughly $43,750 as part of its alternative fuel vehicle program, which pays the difference in price between standard gasoline-powered vehicles and their pricier alternative fuel models. This purchase is expected to save the town roughly $4,400 per year in fuel costs.
