Silver Eagle Development, LLC. is proposing to develop the property located on Route 17 near Route 147 in Durham. The plan is to develop a grocery store on the property. Apart from issues regarding traffic and safety for pedestrians and bicyclers, one issue of concern is of sanitation and run-off. Assistant Health Officer Bill Milardo says that grocery disposal systems have to accommodate standards set by the state Health Department and properly dispose of effluents. Because the property is located on a slope, run-off potential is greater. A report issued on Jan. 15 offered necessary changes that needed to be made to Silver Eagle’s initial proposal. This new report indicates that subsurface sewage disposal systems can be installed in the property soil after favorable results of soil testing.
