The Thames Shipyard and Repair Company and other related company defendants will pay $747,011 in damages after a state inspection at the shipyard’s New London property revealed poor waste management practices, many wastewater and stormwater discharges to the river and the absence of a hazardous waste compliance program. Moreover, numerous structures in violation of state environmental laws were found at the site including piers and docks in and around the Thames River. Of the total settlement, $178,700 will go directly to the state while $568,311 will finance Supplemental Environmental Projects that ameliorate the damaged property and surrounding area.
