The Stop Global Warming Campaign, backed by New London Mayor Kevin Cavanagh and state Senator Andre Maynard, seeks to enact a global warming pollution cap reducing greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent below the 2001 levels. Although Connecticut objectives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions already exist, this will be the first act of legislature regarding the issue. The Connecticut Fund for the Environment also wants the General Assembly to enact legislation that promotes biofuels, expanding appliance energy standards, advanced building codes and enforcement, carbon offsets, rail and mass transit investment, power plant emission standards and continued climate research.
