Rivers for Life, an initiative developed by the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) to keep Connecticut’s rivers clean, recently received several donations. The Fairfield County Community Foundation and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven contributed approximately $20,000. Additionally, the Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation donated $5,000 prior to its merge with the Fairfield County Foundation. The project is part of an ongoing effort by the HVA to educate and empower people in the realm of river vitality. It consists of many components including creating a river water-quality map and a primer guidebook for riverfront communities as well as working with local youth groups to survey river ecology.
