Clinton and the Water Pollution Control Commission are trying to find the necessary land for on- and off-site wastewater treatment. According to James Staunton, the panel’s chairman, the town of Clinton has the capacity to resolve wastewater problems through improved on-site treatment as well as off-site treatment that would require a community treatment plant discharging into the ground through a leaching field. This particular off-site treatment would be needed in the Long Hill Road area because poor soil, small parcels and a high water table disallow on-site treatment. Recently, the selectmen and pollution panel agreed to inspect around 70 acres of land owned by the Sciongay family by Fish Plain Road and Interstate 95. The committee would like to test approximately 200 acres owned by the Sciongay and Schremp families for potential off-site treatment.
