Cromwell may begin granting tax exemptions for owners of hybrid vehicles. Currently, consumers have to pay a high premium for purchasing hybrid vehicles, which are significantly more expensive than their non-hybrid counterparts. The proposed exemption would align the taxable value of hybrid vehicles with non-hybrids and encourage people to make socially and environmentally conscious decisions when purchasing a car. Around 40 people in the town of Cromwell currently drive vehicles classified as hybrids by the Department of Motor Vehicle’s classification standards.
