The Department of Public Utility Control approved seven alternative energy projects throughout the state. Milford will be receiving a nine-megawatt fuel cell power plant on Oronoque Road near the city transfer station that will have the capacity to run roughly 400 homes. The plant itself will cost about $35 million to build, contributing to a total cost of $101.5 for all seven power plants. All together, they will add 109 megawatts of renewable power to the energy grid and will reduce the dependence on fossil fuels in addition to producing lower levels of harmful effluents into the environment such as carbon and other chemical emissions.
