The Bass Library at Yale University has opened a new café as a joint project with library staff, the Yale University Dining Services and the Yale Sustainable Food Project. The eatery will serve a wide variety of food items, all handcrafted from fresh ingredients. Its menu will change with the seasons. The café will attempt to source its produce from local farms and serve organic eggs along with hormone-free and antibiotic-free meat. Some of the desserts and breakfast pastries will also be from New Haven bakeries. All of the packaging for take-out food will be biodegradable, and food eaten inside the café will be served in real plates, bowls and cups.
